Big, Bold Blossoms: Closet Textured Jersey Print Dress From Simply Be

Winter is coming! There is a nip in the air, and instead of worrying how I am going to stay cool enough I am starting to add layers and look longingly at anything with a sleeve. I love Autumn and Winter fashion, but I find so often that there is a dearth of colour. And then there is this Closet dress from Simply Be... Longish sleeves, heavier fabric but a fabulous floral riot of colour. Get in my wardrobe!

Waist Belt - Primark (old)

I first saw this beauty on the lovely Hollie from Pretty Big Butterflies at UK Plus Size Fashion Week, and I totally fell in love with it. This Textured Jersey Print Midi Dress from Closet at Simply Be is comfortable and easy to wear, but at the same time makes a bold statement with the bright floral pattern and full skirt. I love dresses that you can just throw on, and with this dress I am happy to go without shapewear as the fabric is heavy enough to not cling, and it is incredibly comfortable and yet I don't feel in any way slobby.

The dress is a perfect fit on my standard size 22 shape. The sleeves hit me just above the elbow (which is an ideal length for me) and the skirt falls over my knees. This is essentially a skater dress, and so it nips in nicely at the waist (I have highlighted this with a wide elasticated waist belt) and the skirt is beautifully full which I love, and makes me want to twirl. While I usually go for a lower neckline, it's quite nice to mix things up every once and a while, and I loved this print and the back of the dress so much I thought I would give it a try as the rest of the dress ticks all my boxes. It just shows that it is good to step out of your comfort zone, as I do love this dress and feel really pretty in it, despite having the girls tucked away!

I would describe the front as a high boat neck as it is cut quite wide. It did take a little to get used to the highness of it, and at first I was tugging at it as it felt a little uncomfortable.  The high neck at the front makes way for a lovely wide V at the back. Not so wide it shows your bra straps, but wide enough to show off your back. There is also gold zip down the back which is a lovely added feature.

The fabric is a textured jersey, with quite a heavy weight. It's got a lot of stretch in it (to be honest I probably could have fitted into a size 20 however sometimes this means that the pattern gets stretched) which makes for a nice fit. The heavier fabric means that it's just a bit warmer as the weather changes, and also that the dress hangs really nicely and doesn't cling.

My absolute favourite thing about this dress? That pattern! The bright lillies, peonies, roses, berries and leaves are just perfect to keep the winter blues at bay. The background is in fact a very dark navy, but I pretty much treat it as black so have paired it with a black belt, and would probably wear it with black shoes. I love a bold floral, and this is just a riot of beautiful botanicals in my favourite colours.

I am always keeping my eyes peeled for a bright and bold print, and I love to continue to include cheerful colours in my dressing through the colder months. However I do like a longer sleeve and a heavier fabric. What are you wearing now that it's turned colder? What do you think of the dress and print? Let me know below lovelies...

  5. I ordered this dress a few days ago after reading this and it arrived today. I really love it and I'm definitely keeping it but I'm seriously considering having it shortened. At 5ft 4 it comes 3/4 of the way down my calf!
