Classic Chic: French Brand Balsamik Lands on British Shores

When a little email dropped into my inbox about the arrival of Balsamik on UK shores I was thrilled. The French brand starts at a size 10, and with many of its pieces running up to a size 30 and 32, they are all about inclusivity.

I went along, with fellow blogger Curvy Wordy, to view the AW collection and enjoy a lovely french meal at Brasserie Blanc. Balsamik have a wide selection of items on their website, and what is really helpful is you can actually shop pieces by body type. They have a body shape calculator on the website, which helps you determine which shape you are. As we browsed through the rails what struck me about the collection was that it really embodies that effortless French chic. The separates are simple, but high quality and well cut. These are items that will last much longer than a season, and are the sort of clothes that you can use to build the foundation of your wardrobe.

I just had to put this picture of the lunch in because it was so incredibly yum. The cheese souffle actually made me want to cry it was so beautiful!

I love some monochrome and so for me these pieces really stood out. They are simple and classic. I love the grid print on the shirt. For me I would pop the collar, tuck it into a circle skirt and use it to give a modern take on my usual fifties style. I also love the Aztec inspired print on the oversized cardi. I can imagine this with skinny jeans, a coloured blouse and a top knot. Snuggly and casual, while still being ultra stylish.

The stand out piece for me was this black FAUX fur jacket. I wish you could reach through the screen and touch it - the softness was unreal! I was tempted to just bury my face in it, eyeliner be damned, but I am not sure that would have been appreciated. I am so obsessed with faux fur this season, and this collarless coat in plain, jet black is just so wearable. There are endless outfits I would pair it with and be as snug as a bug in a (gorgeously soft) rug!

The Balsamik team had also brought along a selection of their accessories. I was pretty impressed with these proper statement-y brogues. Leopard print pony skin. Get in!

Another beautifully soft piece was this charcoal, polka dot scarf. Reversible, so you can have it light grey with charcoal or charcoal with light grey, I just love that this scarf is so soft and will go with pretty much everything. And who doesn't like a polkadot? I may have gotten a bit carried away with the pictures...

Having spent a bit of time perusing their site I am excited to say that us plus size gals now have another option for classic styles. Things like winter coats and tailored shirts can be so hard to find, and for so long there was such a limited selection that you were almost guaranteed that someone else you knew would have exactly the same thing. It is great to see more and more coming on to the market, meaning CHOICE! So pop over to the Balsamik website, check out the body shape calculator and have a little browse. I am pretty sure there is no one that won't find something for them on there.

For those of you wondering what I was wearing - It is a Scarlett & Jo tea dress from an old collection. You can see a full review here

So, what do you think of the pieces I've previewed? What do you think of the brand? Let me know below...

  1. I hadn't heard of this brand before now, but their pieces look very much like my sort of thing, I'll be investigating this further! Agreed, that faux fur jacket looks so soft and beautiful - that and the grid print shirt are probably my favourite from this little preview.
