Charisse the Sequined Showgirl: Review of the Charisse Full Cup Bra and Brief Set from Sculptresse by Panache

It's the season for sparkles and I am loving this Vegas inspired, sequin printed bra from Sculptresse by Panache. Since the great boob revolution, I have been exploring the world fuller bust lingerie, and I was thrilled when I learned about Sculptresse, who not only do bigger cup sizes but bigger back sizes so they really cater for the plus size market. And joy of joys, there designs range from fun, to pretty, to sexy.

I was so pleased when the lovely team at Panache offered to send me something from their Sculptresse range. The pieces are gorgeous, and I am so thrilled to see a range of bras with larger back sizes that are truly enviable. Picking something was really difficult because I adore pretty much all of the styles, but I eventually decided on the Charisse full cup bra and brief set. The Vegas showgirl in me just had to have it!

I adore teals and blues, and so the colours of the Charisse immediately appealed to me. The photographic sequin print is so unusual, and the print is so clear and sharp I assumed, from images on the website, that it had been printed on to some sort of satin. But the bottom half of the full cup is in fact constructed of a heavy printed mesh. The heavier mesh is supportive for a fuller bust, as is the full cup. The top half of the cup is a lighter mesh, embellished with a floral embroidered design in a complimentary teal colour. Perhaps my favourite little detail on this beautifully designed set is the dainty faceted pink heart that is sewed onto the contrasting teal bow on the central gore. Such a gorgeous little detail!

I decided to opt for a 40E (a sister size to the 38F I have been wearing lately) and the fit was perfect. The band is snug, but not too tight making this bra great for everyday wear. The central gore sits flat against my sternum, and my breast fills the cups. Since I started wearing a larger cup size I have been religiously swooping and scooping. Basically when putting your bra on you want to bend over (swoop)  and then scoop everything you've got into that cup. This ensures any migrated breast tissue that may have moved under your arms, into your arm pits or towards your back is re-positioned into the cup. I find myself doing this multiple times through out the day, and as a result my boobs are certainly getting bigger. I fill this cup really well it's  filled right the way to the bottom, and the top of the cup sits flat against my breast. I also received the matching briefs, in my usual size 22, which fit comfortably and sit just under my belly button. I like that the coordinating underwear in this collection is a mixture of full and high-waisted briefs.Perfect for fuller figures.

Overall, I am really happy with the fit of this bra. My boobs are well supported, and the construction means nice clean lines under clothes. I am so pleased that Sculptresse is a brand dedicated to making beautiful and function lingerie for plus size figures and big busts. I would love to see some coordinating baby dolls and longline bras added to the collection, to match the variety found among some of Panache's other brands, because I think well fitting lingerie is something that the plus size community is still crying out for. And if they can keep making garments that are both sexy and supportive I will be a very happy girl.

What do you think of Charisse? Have you tried Sculptresse before? I'd love to hear your plus sized lingerie wishes, so let me know in the comments.

  1. What an absolutely stunning set of lingerie! I have serious bra envy. Your review is fantastic and full of detail so I'm sure lots of other plus size women will find this information very useful. And like you say, we need longline bras as well - this has become something of a holy grail for me x

    1. I was an MS undies girl for years, but since getting resized I've been wearing much better quality bras and I can really feel the difference. They are an investment, but if you look after them they last!
