Sometimes you forget how far you have come on your own journey. When this gorgeous Kali Babydoll first arrived from the lovely team at Panache, I snapped a quick mirror selfie of it and popped it on my Instagram account. Doing that was a pretty big moment for me, and when I revealed this to a friend she said, "You just come across so fearless to me now I forget you are in fact human". I still have hang ups, and posting images of myself in lingerie is still daunting, but when I look at these images now instead of being drawn to a collection of my flaws I am able to see the good things about my body. I have down days, and I don't think that will ever leave me completely, but the honest fact is I feel sexy in pieces like this and for a long time I didn't think that was possible unless my body changed. But what needed to change was my mindset.

This is my first real piece of grown up lingerie and I love it. Having seen pieces like this modeled on gorgeous bloggers like Caroline from CurvyWordy, I was thrilled when she agreed to do a joint post with me about this beautiful piece! The Kali Babydoll in Purple is sexy and pretty, and perfect for the bedroom. The rich purple colour is perfect for pale skinned babes like me and tanned beauties like Caronline, and the mesh overlay gives you a bit of coverage. It's open at the back (saucy!) and comes with a matching thong (I am not one for a thong, so no review from me I'm afraid but Caroline has reviewed it in hers). Babydolls with full bras are perfect for the bigger busted ladies, as they give you the necessary support so you're not worried about appearing saggy or popping out. Much of the lingerie sold on the High Street does not go up to larger cup sizes, which is why it is great we have brands like Panache making gorgeous pieces for the more boobied among us.
The design of the Kali is very similar to that of the Cleo Marcie (review here) so I figured I would be safe ordering a 38F, which was, as I suspected, the perfect size. The band sits firmly, and my only criticism would be I would like to see I slightly wider band (maybe three hooks to the back) which would just make me feel a little more comfortable as the thinner band digs in ever so slightly and gives me a little bit of overspill on either side to the back of the bra. A wider band would be better for curvier ladies (perhaps something they could consider for babydolls in their Sculptresse range). My boobs comfortably fill the cups, the central gore sits flat against my sternum and the top of the cup sits firmly against my breast without causing any of the dreaded "quad boob". The bottom of the cups are thicker to give more support and the whole cup is covered in light mesh embroidered with a scatter of purple hearts. From the bra top flows a chiffon skirt that is light and see through which is why for the purposes of this review I choose to pair it with high waisted pants. To be honest, as my tummy is my least favourite feature I think this is a good solution for feeling sexier in bedroom wear generally - make it work for you.
As you can see, the baby doll is pretty short on my 5'8 frame (not that I'm complaining, and to see it on someone shorter check out Caroline's) and so I think it looks great with these Lace Hold Ups from The Big Tights Company. I went for the size 22 - 28 option and am thrilled with the fit. They are also available in size 30 - 36. These are the first hold ups I have had in my life that have ever held up! The wide lace band at the top comfortably encapsulates my generous thighs, and there is lots of stretch in the 20 denier tights meaning there is no bagging around my ankles (something I often have with stockings that comfortably fit on my thighs) and they can be pulled right up to a place where I am comfortable to wear them. I have not worn these out yet, but have worn them around the house for extended periods of time with no slippage. Joy!
As I mentioned, Queen of curvy lingerie, Caroline of CurvyWordy, and I have twinned up on this one. I love her reviews for their technical specificity. She always shows things from all angles and gives a really good idea of what you can expect from a product. Plus Caroline and I, while both being curve-some, have very different body types - so it gives you a good idea what the lovely Kali will look like on different bodies. Read her review here. And the lovely George over at Fuller Figure Fuller Bust has also done one.
The Kali is a winner for me. Sexy and sweet. What do you think? Got any lingerie you love? Let me know...
