Getting My Stripes: Missguided Striped T Shirt Dress from Asos Curve

A bit of a different look for me today. If you read the blog regularly you'll know I usually tend to go for more tailored silhouettes that nip in at the waist, but some of my fave bloggers have been rocking some oversize tee dresses and I wanted in on that action.

I haven't always been the queen of the fifties silhouette. In fact for years I felt I needed to disguise my shape and hide my body as much as possible. You can read a little more about how I came to this style here. I really found accentuating and celebrating my shape to be incredibly emancipating, however I think perhaps the more you come to peace with your body the more likely you are to try different things. I usually want that hourglass silhouette because I think it's the most 'flattering', and that's what I am most confident wearing. But I have loved changing it up with a look that's more modern and actually more comfortable. I was first inspired to give this look a go after seeing the gorgeous Chloe from ChloEllio looking babesome in something similar. I'm a total wannabe - awks!

Missguided Oversized Striped Dress - Asos Curve (no longer available)
Leggings - Primark
Boots - TopShop (previous season)
Thrifted Beads - Local Charity Shop
Yellow Chandelier Earrings - Stella & Dot

I've always been a sucker for stripes. I rocked them all the time when I was in uni, and my style could be described as hybrid gypsy skater girl (don't ask!). I don't seem to have enough of them in my wardrobe anymore, so I decided on this striped winner from Missguided on Asos Curve. It's also a great basic, which means you can amp up the accessories. Here I went with some green and yellow beads (I find the best beads in charity shops) and some gorgeous yellow chandelier earrings from Stella & Dot

I really wanted to have that oversized look, so I decided to size up to a 24, which meant I got that proper slouchy fit. Despite sizing up, the dress is still pretty short - I was hoping to pair it with stockings but I think it's better with tights.  I was surprised how much I actually love the boxy, modern shape. Because it's short sleeved it's going to be a great transition piece for Spring. And score! This dress has pockets. Whoop whoop! Alas this fab dress is no longer, but here are some of my other favourites right now.

I've really enjoyed trying something else out, and it's definitely made me want to branch out a bit with my style. What's your go to style - fitted or a little more slouchy? Like any of the dresses I found? Let me know below...

  4. I went through a similar process - first I wasn't exactly hiding but I wasn't thinking that my wardobe is something worthy of money, time and effort either then I discovered retro reproduction niche and got a massive boost of confidence and started thinking that I can invest in my look after all and finally when I'm more OK with my body then ever I'm starting to feel I want to wear more styles. It's funny, I was never troubled with the fact that I am fat and never tried to dress in a way that will make me look slimmer and yet it turned out I actually internalised all those silly guidelines how fat people should and shouldn't dress.

And stripes are awesome! They look great on You!

  7. Pockets! Who doesn't love a good pocket?!
The Breton stripe look is always so classic and with your red hair it gives it such a great look. You can style is with loads of different block colours. I need more casual dresses in my wardrobe for sure.
