A Nod to the Nautical: Studio 8 London's Jenson Dress

I've got some super exciting news! I am going to be collaborating with one of my favourite brands - Studio 8 London - to help showcase their gorgeous Spring/Summer collection. They have so many great pieces, and really are doing wonderful things for the higher end plus size market. I particularly adore their styles for events and special occasions, but they're also great at work and leisure wear. The first piece I'm reviewing is the gorgeous Jenson dress, with its nod to this season's nautical theme.

Red Cardigan - Collectif (not currently available)

This Jenson dress is my ideal transitional piece. Worn with a bright, light cardi and pumps or heels it embraces spring. But if the weather turns (as it has been so fond of doing recently) add boots and a chunkier knit and you'll be ready to face more of this rather persistent winter. The nautical stripes in blue and cream are perfectly on trend, and I've chosen to wear Jenson with red to really play up to that Sailor vibe, but this dress would work as well with loads of other colours - lemon yellow, lavender and a grass green would all look gorgeous!

As I've come to expect with Studio 8, this piece is thoughtfully designed. The striped panels of the skirt are cleverly positioned to draw the eye in at the waist and out over the tummy and thighs, while lengthening the leg. Overall, creating a very flattering effect. Cap sleeves give a little bit of arm coverage, and the neckline is totally work appropriate as the best cut into the neckline isn't cut deep enough to show any cleavage. My first outing with the Jenson dress was to Sunday lunch and drinks afterwards, however I think this is a stand out work outfit, which would look great with a little navy blazer and heels.

I'm wearing my usual size 22, which fits me comfortably. This style is quite roomy around the bust, and so would work for bigger busted ladies too. The seamed waist fits comfortably, and I've added a belt to further accentuate the waist (and because it seems I feel nothing is finished until it has a belt these days!). The A-line skirt skims over the tummy and hips, and sits just above the knee on my 5'8 frame. What I didn't expect is for this dress to fit quite as comfortably as it did. I love clothes that are so comfortable you're not actually aware of them while you're wearing them. And the Jenson dress is one of those.

I recently talked to Slink magazine about some of my favorite pieces from the latest Studio 8 collection. You can find my picks in their most recent issue (if you're not buying Slink already get on it! Great reading for #fatshionistas) and if you enter Slink20 at checkout over on the Studio 8 website, you'll get 20% of your purchase. You're welcome! Watch out for more exciting things over the next few weeks and months as our collaboration continues!

What do you think of the Jenson dress? Are you digging the nautical vibes this season? What's your fave trend for spring? Let me know...
