An Ode to Lyra: My Love Of The Lady V London Lyra Dress

There are some dress styles which have become staples in my wardrobe. I revisit them almost religiously when looking to satisfy my shopping urge. Usually I am drawn to styles that work for a variety of occasions and come in a plethora of prints and patters so that even though I own the dress in multiples, it always feels fresh when I wear it. Lyra from Lady Voluptuous is one of these favourites.

Oxblood Suede Ballet Flats - Simply Be (previous season)

Designed by the wonderful George of Fuller Figure Fuller Bust collaborating with Lady V London, Lyra was originally launched in solid colours and this was the first printed version of the Lyra dress. While I already have her in four plain colour ways I think this printed version may be my very favourite. I have actually had this dress since the late summer (I was going through a bit of a rough time when an amazing care package arrived from the lovely Caroline of Curvy Wordy including this GORGEOUS dress) and am reviewing it now because the lovely George announced on Twitter the other day that this summer we can expect more Lyras in prints!

I have written about the reasons I so adore Lyra before, but I'll recap once more (because I love to tell you all how I love her!) Lyra has a beautiful shape, which recalls dresses of the forties and fifties, and yet is super suitable for modern living. The fabric is light and floaty, which means it drapes beautifully. This is essential for the fluttery angel sleeves (which give great coverage but are in no way restrictive) and the full skirt which hangs in gentle folds. The cross over neckline means it's great for busty girls, and the tie (which I actually like to tie at the front rather than the back) really draws in the waist. The winter version has long sleeves but otherwise is exactly the same. Despite some very pretty design features, I think what makes this dress so versatile and wearable is its simplicity. It's a simple, pretty design executed well. And it can be worn to all sorts of events.

I am super excited to see what sort of prints Lady V have in store for us this season, because the first summer print they did was just stunning. The vintage print of yellow and pink roses really suits the style of the dress, and looks gorgeous on the summery blue background. I am ready to add a whole lot more patterns to my collection. And if you're interested in my collection...

My very first Lyra was this beautiful teal version, which I pretty much bought 20 minutes after they were launched online. It is still one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe, and I pop it on whenever I want to feel effortlessly feminine and powerful at same time, as teal is definitely one of my power colours. Here I am wearing it with some cut out flats and turquoise earrings and a necklace.

This picture was taken when I was on a boat trip around Manhattan on my US trip last year. This lovely berry shade is another powerful colour. I love the way the breeze has caught those wonderfully full sleeves. I paired it here with the same turquoise earrings (I love them, I have to admit) and some tortoiseshell sunglasses.

This green Lyra always makes me feel a bit like Poison Ivy. A colour that is just killer on red heads, I am looking forward to wearing it loads more this summer. Paired here with beaded earrings, and brown cut out pumps.

The winter version of Lyra has longer sleeves, but has all the same romantic charm. Here I'm wearing this deep purple - another strong colour - with burgundy biker boots and a chunky statement necklace to give the whole outfit a bit more edge.

Another winter version this time in this gorgeous electric blue, which is perfect for red heads. With the colours so bright, I opted for some simple brown boots to complete the outfit.

So there you have my (ever growing) collection of Lyras. Looking forward to adding some more when the pretty summer patterns are released. What do you think of Lyra? Have you got any? Let me know...
