Simple Styling with Studio 8's Lisa Tunic Dress

I am a sucker for statement pieces – bold prints, bright colours, crazy embellishments. Loud! Sometimes I am really bad at picking basics because I am a magpie and get distracted by all the shiny, fun colour. What I love about Studio 8 is that their collection always has some killer statement pieces that I am drawn to immediately (like this green lace loveliness from AW, or this structured nautically inspired dress I reviewed a few weeks ago) but they also nail the basics. And sometimes a chic, simple piece is exactly what you need! Something you can make your own, and match your mood with.

A black tunic is pretty common fare for plus size women, And not my usual go-to style to be honest. But I wanted the Lisa Tunic Dress from the moment I saw it on Studio 8’s Instagram. The designers at Studio 8 have updated this classic style with satin trims around the sleeves and along the gold zip front – both adding a sense of luxury to a modern piece. The draw string that ties to the back gives the piece a bit more structure, pulling you in the waist if you wish. And the strings are ended with little gold toggles – another luxe finish.

I am wearing a size 22 here (my usual size) and it fits well. The sleeves are comfortably roomy, and offer good coverage on the arms without being warm. I love that this can be worn as a tunic or a dress, meaning it can work for different seasons. The first time I wore it I paired it with leggings and pumps –a great look, and comfortably for running around in, doing errands that sort of thing. Here I decided to wear it as a dress, and go bare legged, and a little bit of Hayley with my new favourite shoes - my glittery Keds. On my 5’8 frame the skirt rests about mid-thigh – I have to be careful not to bend over haha, but I like getting my legs out (pale as they may be) come summer, so I’m not complaining.  With some heels you could totally rock this on a night out, or add flip flops or pumps for a cute look when on holiday, or a warm summer’s day.

This piece has made me realise that I need to add some more simple, easy to wear pieces to my wardrobe. Something understated and chic like this tunic has its own charm, and will be worn differently depending on your personality, and mood. What do you think of this more classic look? Have you done any shopping with Studio 8? Let me know…
