Underwear As Outerwear: Holdups, Vests and Knickers from The Big Tights Company

I am such a fan of the Big Tights Company. Pantyhose, tights, holdups can be a nightmare for the plus size lady - particularly a tall one. So, finding quality plus size tights, holdups and pantyhose has been a revelation! So when they asked me if I wanted to try their lace edged vest and knickers combo I was excited to give them a try, and see if they lived up to the high standards of comfort and quality I'd come to expect from the Big Tights Company.

Black Knitted Shrug - New Look (previous season)

The All Woman Lace Edged Vest is a simple black fine ribbed vest, with lycra for stretch. The stretch is such that no matter how much you wear it or wash it, it's not going to lose shape. The vest is a good length on my long torso. Here I am wearing size 18-22 - as I am at the top end of the size range I was a little worried that it might be a little snug, but it accommodates my curves comfortably. The little lace trim gives this practical piece a little femininity and hint of sexiness.

The straps are nice and wide, meaning they will easily cover your bra straps - important for busty girls. The fabric is form fitting, but smoothing and I like that it can be worn under things or indeed on it's own as a top (as I have chosen to in this post). In fact, I wasn't sure how well this was going to work until I tried it and now I think these may replace all my slightly faded jersey fabric tank tops. I decided to pair the vest and hold ups (and of course knickers) with a 50s style circle skirt that I got on eBay last year. The vest is so form fitting it gave me a really smooth clean shape, which is a perfect base for the fullness of a circle skirt with a petticoat underneath.

Underneath I was wearing the All Woman Lace Edged Knickers. In the same fabric as the vest, these make the perfect set. The fabric is breathable which is perfect for panties, and I am wearing a size 18-22 which fit comfortably and are high rise so can be pulled up over my belly button - which I find most comfortable. (What can I say? I like me some big pants!)

I am also wearing All Woman Lace Hold Ups. This was the first product I ever purchased from The Big Tights Company. Every experience I had had with holds up prior has been disastrous! Usually I couldn't get them big enough to go over my sizeable thighs. If I did, they were often edged in a very thin band of lace, which meant they rolled down each time I moved. ARRG! But not with these wonderful holdups. The band of lace is generously wide, and grips your thighs firmly. I find they wear best if you pull them up to the highest point on your thigh. They also need to be a little snug so they have proper hold. I find that the size 22-28 fit me well on 5'8 frame.

To my outfit I added a wide black buckle to define my waist, a crocheted shrug, a hair flower and some black wedges to finish off my look. And I have to say I was pretty pleased with it. Add a long sleeved cardigan and you have a winter outfit. Remove the tights and you have a really cute day look for summer. The flamingos are so cheerful, bright and colourful - I want to explore getting a couple more of these circle skirts from eBay this summer.

Quick spin in my wonderfully colourful skirt!

I would really recommend checking out The Big Tights Company - their products are quality, and especially made for the plus size market which means fit is key. They have a great selection of hosiery and anti chafe shorts, and have now added vests and knickers for the fuller figure to their products, so I am excited to see what they'll do next. What do you think? Where do you get your hose and underwear from? Let me know...
