Emerald Goddess Realness: Studio 8 Silk Neptune Maxi Dress

Every time the team at Studio 8 invite me to view their upcoming collections I fall in love with something. This time last year I went to see their upcoming AW pieces and fell head over heels for the Green Yvette Lace dress. Then just before Christmas I went to see what they would have in store for us in SS16. Despite it being a rainy, miserable day and me being bundled up in a coat and scarf, this silk maxi in brilliant green was a promise of summer glamour. I have pretty much obsessed about it since I saw it, and have bugged the team over at Studio 8 on a monthly basis to find out when it was hitting stores. As part of my series of posts about SS occasion wear I am going to show you how I would style this dress for a summery wedding.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this on here yet (I think I mention it an annoying amount in other spheres) but my brother is getting married in the Caribbean in November! Eeek! Ever since they set the date and destination, I have been on the lookout for my dream dress, aware that we’ll be well into AW fashion by the time the wedding rolls around, so I need to find something now. And I totally have! The Neptune dress is absolutely perfect for a destination wedding in hotter climes.

Come summer I am always partial to a floaty maxi dress. I really feel the heat and so in really warm weather I prefer them to more fitted styles. When I wear fitted pieces I often choose heavier fabrics that don’t cling too much to any lumps and rolls. I also usually wear shapewear under dresses etc that are snug. Not great in the hot weather. It can sometimes be hard to find something that feels suitable smart and glam, while not being too heavy. But a lightweight, loose maxi dress in natural fabrics is exactly what you need in sticky, sweaty weather.

Brass Plate Necklace – Thrifted (super old!)
Flat Gold Sandals – Next (last season)
Green Beaded Ring – Gift from South Africa
Green Glass Earrings – Accessorize (super old)

The Neptune dress definitely has a Grecian goddess vibe to it. The overlay is pure silk, with a lightweight jersey under layer in a matching green. It is drawn in at the waist with an elasticated seam and gold stretch belt. The bodice is roomy and has a somewhat blouson effect, and a fairly high rounded neck – perfect for showing off a statement necklace. The sleeves are short and split, giving you a little coverage on the arms, but making sure the style stays cool and comfortable. I am wearing a 22 (my usual size) which fits perfectly, and is the ideal length when paired with flat, gold sandals (I’m 5’8). I added a statement brass plate necklace (thrifted, I’ve had it for years) and some green glass earrings, and honestly I was incredibly comfortable and cool, but felt so glamourous.

I am completely sold on this dress. I cannot wait to wear it to the wedding. It couldn’t be more perfect for beachy celebrations. Alas, the pure silk means it doesn’t travel that well and it’s definitely going to need a press on the other side (I didn’t do a very good job here – my domestic skills are somewhat lacking and avoid ironing like the plague) but it doesn’t seem to crease a lot as you wear it, so that’s good!

I think this may always be a dress I keep for best, but it could definitely be used for more every day wear if you pair it with some flip flops and colourful beads. Also, as part of their Spring Summer range, Studio 8 have extended their size range, so they are now available up to a 26.
I have to say, this dress is definitely my favourite thing I have put on my body this summer. I feel glamourous, sexy, sophisticated and cool. My wedding outfit is totally sorted! Now I just have to write my speech… eeek!

Studio 8 are fab for occasion wear. I have already written about some of my favourite separates from them. Have you got something special coming up? Have you got some Studio 8 in your wardrobe? Let me know!
