Modern Vintage: Parfait Lingerie Charlotte Bra in Dusty Pink

I am always pleased to discover new plus size lingerie brands. There are a proliferation of D+ cup brands these days, but there are still not that many options for larger band sizes. I was recently contacted by Parfait lingerie and asked if I’d like to review some of their pieces. On visiting the website, I was pleased to find that Parfait offer some really servicable everyday basics, along with some more stand out show stopper pieces. I browsed for quite a while, and thought I should perhaps err on the side of sensible. But me being me, I instead opted for something a bit of wow factor.

I decided on the Charlotte bra and knickers set Dusky Rose. I was totally seduced by its vintage appeal – the rosey nude colour way when paired with the black seam detailing had a somewhat Jean Paul Gaultier feel to it. A sort of modern vintage, an update on a classic, which I just love. The cups are made of a matt fabric, with the central gore and wings of the cups made of a satin that has a subtle sheen. The use of more muted fabrics really works with this style, otherwise I think it might’ve ended up looking a little tacky. The contrasting black binding on the lower half of the cup and along the top edge, with matching black bow, give the bra its structure and also work to accentuate the round shape the cup has given my bust.

Prior to changing my bra size (going down band sizes and up cup sizes) I pretty much only wore padded bras, as I felt my breasts needed the support of padding to give them the best shape possible. However, the lack of support I was experiencing was due to wearing the wrong size not because of materials. So since changing sizes I have been going mainly for unpadded styles. The Charlotte is lightly padded, and it certainly makes me feel a bit more busty (plus hides nipple rise, which I am a bit prone to!). Having checked out some other reviews online, I opted for a 40F. The cups are spot on! The underwire sits exactly where it should, encapsulating my entire breast and making sure it isnt sitting on any breast tissue, and the central gore sits flat. The band, which has a 3 hook fastening to the back, is certainly snug, and by the end of a long day it starts to dig in and I am relieved to take it off. This is certainly the case with quite a few of my bras and I think a little discomfort at the tail end of a long day is worth firm support, but if you are between band sizes I would certainly recommend sizing up.

The Charlotte bra came with matching high waisted briefs, which also have a wonderfully vintage feel (and don’t you know how I love me some big pants!). I ordered them in a size 22, and while they fit I probably could have sized up to a 24 for total comfort. So I would say that Parfait sizing is perhaps slightly on the small side.

I love the vintage sultriness of this style. It’s the sort of lingerie that is going to make an impact when you removing clothes, and I like knowing I am wearing something a little saucy under my clothes, even for day to day. There are a lot more Parfait styles I would like try (and I have a baby doll coming later in the week). The Charlotte is available to buy here

I am doing a lingerie post every day this week. Check out Monday's here.

  1. I have this bra in a periwinkle color and it is my favorite! The support is great and holds the girls in place all day with no sagging.

    1. The periwinkle is so pretty, but not good with my colouring. Lucky you :)
