A Little Romance: Frill Sleeve Lace Dress from Simply Be

I'm always a fan of romantic styles, and had been eyeing this Simply Be dress in 'Dusky Berry' lace for a while. I love dresses that are versatile and can be used day to night. The romantic style of this pretty piece makes it a perfect date dress too.

Statement Waist Belt - Primark

This Frill Sleeve Lace Dress from Simply Be features a low V neck to the front, and dramatic frilled sleeves. There is a stretch lining which sits above the knee, with a lace overlay that hits mid calf (this is on my 5'8 frame). The lace combined with colour and frills make this a great date dress for me. The V neck means you can show a little cleavage without giving away too much and the shorter lining means showing off your pins without getting them out completely.

When the dress arrived it was less purple and more burgundy than I expected from the pics on the site, however the colour is still very much in my palette so I wasn't displeased. I sized up to a 24 as I knew I might need the extra room for my tummy as this dress has a straight skirt - not nearly as roomy as A line. I still felt I needed shapewear to wear the dress, because I don't have total comfort with displaying a VBO (visible belly outline), but I could have gone without if this bugged me less. I added a belt to draw me in a bit at the waist and give the dress a bit more shape. I really like the powerful silhouette, and especially how it shows off my long legs, however if I'm honest I'm probably still more comfortable in dresses with A line skirts. It's funny because that didn't at all used to be the case and this used to be my go to shape, but I guess tastes change. It was good to try something different though, and I got quite a lot of compliments on this look which is always nice.

All in all I think this is a versatile piece - it could work as a day dress or in the evening. It's a great seasonal transition piece, and would be lovely to wear on a date as I suggested above, or to a late summer or autumnal wedding. What do you think? Are you a fan of romantic styles? Have you checked out Simply Be's great selection of plus size dresses lately?
