Ariel Realness: Atlantis Deep Sea Bikini by Curvy Kate

So this is my very first swimwear post! I first took some tentative steps into the world of the 'fatkini' last summer - the first time I had worn a bikini since I was about 7. Since then I have been super excited to try some Curvy Kate swimwear, as two of my best busty bloggers Caroline of Curvy Wordy and George of Fuller Figure Fuller Bust swear by them. And so when Curvy Kate sent me the Atlantis Deep Sea set to review I was over the moon. This called for some styling help to create blog photos with some serious Ariel realness.
First of all, a shout out to my boo, George from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust, who spent ages styling my hair into an incredible Ariel like doo, and then patiently helped me pose and photographed me. I think the results speak for themselves! And we had a lot giggles, especially when she managed to get me to lie in the bushes. I'm still pulling bits of foliage from my hair and ass!

Like most women my age, I have always been obsessed with all things mermaid. As a 6 year old The Little Mermaid's world was pretty much the most magical thing I could imagine. And apparently being in my thirties has not dimmed that one bit, because as soon as I saw the mermaid inspired scalloped scales print of the Atlantis Deep Sea bikini from Curvy Kate I wanted it. The scale pattern is in blue, turquoise and white, and the halterneck bikini top is trimmed with a blue bow to the central gore, and blue halterneck straps.

When you've got some boobs going on often traditional bikinis just don't have the required support.   What you really want is a bikini top that looks the part but is in fact constructed like a bra - which is where Curvy Kate's bra engineering expertise really make a difference. In this style I decided to go for the halterneck as I already had a selection of swim bras, and halternecks are great for that little added extra boost in the cleavage department. I am wearing a 38F - which is the same size I wear in Curvy Kate bras, and I am really happy with the fit. While the Atlantis is super supportive it also gives a gorgeous shape and lift - very supportive.  The foam lining adds to the shape and resilience of the cup (and also avoids any embarrassing transparency issues), the plunge cut means a fabulous cleavage and is great for a low tan line, and the strength of the band and cup combo mean while tanning you can certainly undo the halterneck without fear of popping out (however the halterneck is pivotal for lift!).

One of the things I love the most about the Atlantis (and indeed most of Curvy Kate's swimwear offering) is the fact that this pattern comes in a variety of cuts and styles. This means that there are lots of options to suit different tastes. Atlantis has halterneck and swim bra bikini top styles, a tankini as well as three different types of briefs! I chose the high waist briefs as tummy coverage is always my number one concern with bikinis. As I am tall (5'8) and have a long torso and sizeable tum, I would have preferred the briefs to come even higher, and while I was able to pose in ways I was comfortable in for the photos I do wonder whether I would be comfortable in these in public. I might choose instead to pair the top with a higher pair of briefs in blue perhaps. This is sad, because I love the full colour effect of the whole bikini so I hope I have come far enough along on my body confidence journey by the time my big beach holiday rolls around (in November) to wear the whole set with confidence.

So, what do you think of the Atlantis set? Are you a bikini wearer? Or do you prefer a full piece or tankini? Have you tried Curvy Kate swimwear before? Let me know...

Oh, and for those of you who made it to the end... A little treat... A ridiculous outtake from my super professional shoot with George. I am such a super model!
