Mad About Metallics: Elvi Metallic Pleater Skirt and Quilted Jacket

Metallics are a big trend for Autumn Winter, and I love them because they're a bold, luxury statement and if worn well can be totally sophisticated. You can play it safe with accessories, of you can bring this fab trend into your wardrobe with a statement separate. I love this metallic skirt from ELVI because it's a classic style in an up to date fabric.

Black Mary Janes - Primark

Sure, a metallic skirt is an obvious statement piece - perfect for parties and nights out. But here I wanted to show you how it can work beyond where you'd expect, so I decided to style it for the office. I paired Elvi's metallic Pleated Skirt with their grey quilted jacket to create a professional look. The A line skirt paired with the structured jacket nips in at the waist giving me a neat hourglass figure, but as the jacket is made from jersey it's still super comfortable with lots of stretch.

The grey quilted jacket is quilted and collarless, with a press stud fastening to the waist. The sleeves are a 3/4 length, and are ruched - it's this sort of design detail which is why I love Elvi. Their stuff is always exciting and unusual. Not the usual fare! I have found Elvi's sleeves to be less than generous in the past so I sized up to a 24, and I'm glad I did. Overall the fit of the jacket is good, and I think it works beautifully with A line skirts so I will be trying it out with more.

The skirt is a more simple design, but then when you're working with metallics, in design sometimes less is more. I ordered the skirt in a size 22 (my usual size) - a good fit, the wide elastic waist is snug but comfortable. The skirt is a bit longer than I'd like (I'm 5'8 so that's pretty long) but as its unhemmed I'm thinking of just snipping a couple of inched off the bottom myself.

This is a pretty tame, professional look and I'm looking forward doing something a little more daring and evening-y with my new metallic skirt next, but it's great that it's the sort of piece you can wear a lot of different ways - makes it a worthy investment piece. Something you can use to quickly update your wardrobe.

So, what do you think of the metallics trend? Something you're likely to try? Let me know...
