Lucky Black Cats: Voodoo Vixen Katniss Dress in Blue

It's been a little while since I have had some pinup repro on the blog, but that 50s look is still my go to style and a couple of months back I picked up this gorgeous Katniss dress from Voodoo Vixen's Plus Size range, Vixen Curve. With it's black cat print and three quarter sleeves I have just been waiting for the weather to change so I could wear it. Feels like autumnal perfection. And joy of joys, this baby has pockets!

I always afore Voodoo Vixen because they create wonderful, unusual designs, using rare and fabulous prints. And unlike a lot of reproduction brands I feel like they really put a lot of energy into creating something unique and special. The Katniss is a really adorable design - the print features black cats with little umbrellas (the illustrations are rather vintage looking themselves) and droplets of rain. All the accents are in black - a little scalloped trim around the neckline and at the cuffs and pockets, black buttons and a black belt. The pockets are big and deep, perfect for holding a mobile phone, some lipstick and your keys. Honestly, I don't know a girl who doesn't love a dress with pockets! This Katniss dress is a beautiful, bright blue, and I picked it up in an end of range sale earlier this year. Voodoo Vixen have also done it in a bright green previously, and currently Simply Be are stocking the Katniss in Red which I am very tempted by.

I am wearing a 3XL here which is a very comfortable fit. A 2XL is a split size - 20/22, while the 3XL is a 24. I often find it's best to size up with Voodoo Vixen dresses as they tend to run small and I am glad I did in this case because the fit is perfect. The neckline is cut quite wide, which is a lovely feature, but I find it best to pin the dress to my bra strap to stop it from slipping off my shoulder.  The sleeves fit comfortably which is great - as I have meaty arms I often can find that 3/4 sleeves can be a bit binding but these are comfy. The skirt falls just over the knee on my 5'8 frame, which is the perfect length for me. And while the skirt is not a full circle it is certainly generous enough to look lovely with a petticoat underneath, although here I am wearing it without one as a petticoat felt a little much for Sunday afternoon lunch at my brother's (which is where we took these pictures).

With it's black cats and longer sleeves I love this dress for autumn and spring. I think I am going to be getting a lot of wear out of it in the next few months - perfect for Sunday lunch, or a day at a museum or out shopping. What do you think of Voodoo Vixen? Have you got any of their pieces in your wardrobe? Are you a fan? Let me know...
