Best of 2016: My Fave Outfits from the Past Year

What's more fun than an end of year round up? So we still have a little while to go before we head into 2017, but to be honest 2016 was a bit of a fucker for me personally (and for the world, obvs), so I am kinda ready to put this bitch behind me. And what better way than to celebrate my fave outfits from the last 12 months!

River Island Plus burst onto the plus size scene this summer, finally making a lot of fat girls dreams come true. And the collection did not disappoint! Fashion forward, wearable, and with a perfect fit the new River Island Plus collection totally smashed it! My favourite piece has to be this oriental inspired maxi dress.

This year I really got my bikini on! Having taking my first tentative steps into the world of more revealing swimwear last year, I really dove head first into two pieces this summer. This gorgeous picture was taken for me by George of Fuller Figure Fuller Bust, and is probably my favourite picture taken of me this year. Hilariously it involved rolling around in the overgrown bush in my back garden (fnarr fnarr). I adore this print from Curvy Kate, who make the most wonderful large cup bikinis, in all sorts of prints and cuts.

I have always been desperately in love with mermaids. Ariel is my soul sister and I've spent most of my life trying to have her hair. When Collectif brought out my favourite dress ever (the Dolores Doll) in this mermaid print, I just had to have it! And the matching cardi. It got a lot of wear over the summer, and is bound to be a wardrobe favourite for many years to come.

It took me almost a year to build up the courage to wear this tutu. I got it back in 2015, but somehow faltered every time I went to wear it. But in the spring I popped it on again, and felt bloody fabulous! It's big, it's poofy, it makes me take up a lot of room, and it's gorgeous and I love it. Every year Evans collaborate with an up and coming student designer to create a fun, fashion forward collection for the summer. This year I totally fell in love with this wonderfully folky tiered denim dress. Unusual, casual and comfortable, it ticked all my boxes.

Finding work wear with personality can be really hard. In the office I want to look chic and smart, but I still want to feel like myself. This rose applique dress from Elvi is bloody brilliant - a basic shift dress, but covered with little tulle rosettes, it's a total statement but still totally profesh! Yes!

I don't say this very often, but sometimes less is more. From the moment I clapped eyes on this silk dream from Studio 8 London, I knew it was the dress I wanted to wear to my brother's island wedding. I felt cool, calm and gorgeous all day in St Lucia when I wore it. The colour makes it a beautiful statement, while the simple design means it's going to be a wardrobe classic for years to come.

I do love me a green dress. And this embellished flapper fabulousness from Gatsby Lady is a show stopper! I am desperate for someone to have a Gatsby themed party so I can show it off, but in the meantime it's been wonderful for Christmas time! (Seriously, check out Gatsby Lady for the most gorgeous selection of twenties inspired frocks.)

Voodoo Vixen are always designing wonderfully unusual vintage style dresses. My favourite this year has got to be this sumptuous teal number, with flocked peacock design. Such a wonderfully pretty party dress, taking me back to my pinup roots.

This red dress from Simply Be is one of those I kept my eye on for absolutely ages. I just didn't feel I could justify another red dress. But when I finally took the plunge I was so glad I did, because the fit and design on this puppy is perfect. I have worn it to a wedding this year (where I got so many compliments on it) and to a Christmas party a couple of weeks ago. I just love it.

Buying plus size coats used to be the bane of my existence. A chore that came round ever year and made me groan with frustration as I traipsed from store to store looking for one that fit and didn't make me look like a granny. Well hallelujah! With the emergence of more plus size brands we truly are spoilt for choice nowadays, and my round up features TWO coats that I adore this year. This parka from Studio 8 is a revelation. This casual coat is cut perfectly - warm and comfortable without compromising on fit and style. I am going to be wearing this beauty for years!

Leopard Faux Fur Coat - Evans

On the rather less practical side is faux fur wonder from Evans. It's loud and ridiculous and fun, and makes me look like a Fat Pat Butcher and I am totally here for that. It's also a bulky, no form fitting piece that I would never have invested in 2 years ago, so here's to pushing more fashion and body boundaries in 2017!

What have you been wearing this year? What were your favourite pieces? What do you like of the above, and what would you like to see more reviews of in the New Year? Let me know...
