How to Dress for Actual Spring Weather: WIth River Island Plus Cold Shoulder Top

This look is a bit sneaky - it looks all Spring like and ready for the warm weather, but add a jacket and you're ready for the unpredictable, often chilly London climate. I'm loving the combo of black and pale pink at the moment - it's like a softer monochrome. And I am finding so many great pieces at River Island. Viva their plus size collection!

Cold shoulders seem to be everywhere at the moment. They tend to be a favourite among plus size retailers and on occasion I have to admit I have ended up thinking "Oh Christ, not another bloody cold shoulder". I found myself thinking maybe there was a perception that this was an acceptable was for a plus size woman to show skin. I've mellowed towards them of late - firstly, because I do actually think it's a pretty style and secondly because they're all over the place at the moment and don't seem to be the sole preserve of plus size brands.

This top is a subtle nod to some super spring trends - pinks, florals, cold shoulders and crochet. I really liked the pretty floral print , along with the crocheted edging along the bust line and arms. I ordered a 22 and I think it runs a bit big, and I could probably have gone for a 20, but it does give a nice relaxed fit - good for with jeans. I decided to wear this top with a strapless bra (my Curvy Kate luxe) because none of my bras had straps in the right position to be covered by the tops straps.

Despite us being well into Spring, the weather does not seem to have gotten the memo, so I paired my top with some black Studio 8 jeans (I adore the fit of their Maddie jeans, so good for big tums and bums) and my pink satin trainers, but added my new straw basket bag from Simply Be as another desperate nod to warmer weather, lol. Despite being a bit chilly, it was bright, so it gave me a chance to try out my new River Island sunnies as well - so pretty in their pink marble effect!

This look is really comfortable, easy to wear and seasonal, while still allowing for the UK's version of Spring ;) I am rather pleased with it! What are you wearing at the moment? How do you feel about cold shoulders? Have you shopped the RI Plus collection? Let me know...

  1. I tend to think with a style of top like this it's less a cold shoulder, and more a bardot with a strap, so I rather like them! I love the photos of you laughing, you're such an utter delight! xxx

  2. This is such a cute look! Like you, I rolled my eyes at every single cold shoulder until I actually tried one. And was like, "Oh, this is cute on my swimmers shoulders!" And now that it's morphing into bardot territory, I have a whole lot of time for it!
