Lady in Lace: Featuring the Chi Chi London Liviah Dress from Simply Be

I adore pretty dresses. Despite having a wardrobe overflowing with frills and frou frou, I can always find space in my heart for one more. So I was delighted when Simply Be made my princess dreams come true and sent me this gorgeous pale pink confection to feature on the blog.

Chi Chi London  have been on my radar for a while, with their signature lace occasion wear styles. They have a specialised plus line, that is sold on a number of different retailer's sites in the UK. While their designs are right up my alley (especially with this current girly phase I am living for) I had never tried them before, partially because I had heard not great things about their fit. I definitely knew they ran a little small, so I decided to size up to a 24. And in the 24 the dress fits like a dream! The waist is where it should be on me, I like the hemline (I am 5'8) and the sleeves and bust fit comfortably. It was a reminder that clothes really do fit differently on everyone, and that just because a design doesn't work on someone else, doesn't mean you'll have the same problem.

The colour is delicate and beautiful - somewhere between a blush and baby pink. The skirt has layers of frothy tulle (which explains the slightly higher price point - after all this is occasion wear) with a lace overlay making the dress seem extravagant, while the dainty colour means it works for day or evening wear. The bodice is also covered in a sturdy lace (although not too heavy - I didn't find the dress at all hot) and features a high neckline, edged with scalloped lace. The neckline is my only complaint - the lace doesn't have the required stiffness, so flops forward at the slightest provocation, and I had to pose very carefully to avoid that happening in these pictures. I am so in love with this dress though, that I am hoping to find a solution. I am thinking of spraying it with some good old fashioned starch to see if that fixes the problem.

This dress is pretty much my fairytale princess dress of dreams. (You know, if princesses lived in a slightly run down flat in Battersea, took the bus, and had recently been besieged by frogs rather than dragons...) It is incredibly pretty and show stopping, and is worthy of a special occasion - now I just need something to wear it to. Have you got any fancy events coming up over the summer? What are you gonna wear? What do you think of this Chi Chi dress? Let me know...

  3. I love the prettiness of Chi-Chi clothing and have one in red that I wore at Christmas. This is a perfect summer colour, and suits you down to a tee. I could see this being worn as a outfit to a glorious summer wedding. You look just beautiful xx
