Monday Blues: Featuring Simply Be, Navabi and the Wide Calf Boot Store

Since going proper copper with my hair I have been loving wearing blues even more than usual. So these Monday blues are a good thing, I promise! This look is comprised of some of my fave blue things in my wardrobe at the moment.

As soon as the cooler weather arrives I can usually be found draping myself in as much faux fur as possible. Think of me as the ethical Cruella. This, however is my first forray into looking like a little blue bear. I saw this short faux fur jacket on the Simply Be website and just knew I had to have it. It's a rich blue - a bit brighter than a traditional navy. And I love the boxy cut, and short length. My other faux fur pieces are all longer. Getting closer to the festive season, I can see myself wearing it with jeans and a sequin cami in a rich jewel tone, but I wanted to show you how you could wear it with a more every day look. Size wise, I opted for a 24, which fits comfortably but wouldn't get a lot of layers under it. It's pretty true to size. It closes with sturdy hook and eye type fastenings, and my only criticism is that the pockets are in the side seams, which is a really inconvenient place on a jacket - nice try, but it just doesn't work.

I loved pairing the faux fur with this checked midi shirt dress from Navabi, because it brought quite an everyday outfit an edge of glamour. As always, this Navabi piece is absolute quality, and beautifully made. The dress is proper flannel - really soft and comfortable to wear. It's a great day dress for the office and the tartan has a really wintery feel to me. I feel very much like a modern day Merida from Brave (I recently went as her to a fancy dress party, see pictures on my instagram). It also takes me back to my Scottish roots, which I love (I'm a Stewart, after all!). Fit wise, I ordered a 24 and it is pretty bang on. It comes with a matching tie belt, but I opted to wear it with an old thick black belt - just to break up the pattern again.

I was recently contacted by the Wide Calf Boot Store, to see if I would be interested in reviewing a pair of their boots. Don't be mislead by the name, they actually cater for slim calf boots, wide calf boots and extra wide calf boots - basically all your specialist boot needs. I do love a good pair of boots, so said yes. The wesbite has a calf size calculator - I am usually quite sceptical about buying these sorts of things online when I feel they need to be correctly measured, but I diligently measured my calf and entered this along with my shoe size and was given the calf size XL. Joyfully the wesbite then also filters all results by this, so you're not looking at boots that are not currently available in your calf size.

I already own some good boots in brown leather, and maroon pleather, as well as a whole collection of ankle boots in numerous colours, so I opted for a navy as I am all about blue at the moment, and I love navy as an alternative black. The Alexandria boots in Ocean (what a great name for a colour) are really practical - they are sturdy, have a small block heel and are a gorgeous colour. From the moment I slipped them on they fit like a glove, and I completely forgot I was wearing new boots - this is definitely the sign of a good fit in my books. The sizing is bang on, the boots are comfortable and the colour is gorgeous. I know I am going to be wearing these for many years to come. Rave reviews, and definitely worth the investment if you want some well fitting boots that will last.

So yes, as you can see, my Monday has been blue but anything but miserable! Do you struggle to find boots that fit? Are you a lover of faux fur? What's in your autumnal wardrobe? Let me know...
