Navy and Mustard: Autumn Fashion with Marks and Spencer

It seems I have not intentionally taken most of the summer off from blogging. New posts have been few and far between, I know. But if you follow me on social media, you'll know I have been posting regularly on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I'd love to say it was because I spent the (rather short) English summer sunning myself, but it's actually because I have gone back to full time work. I am working on a couple of pan London mental health projects (which I am really enjoying) and have been learning how to balance my blog, work and life again. More recently I spent a wonderful week at a body positive yoga retreat in Turkey (which I will write about soon). But the end of my summer holiday meant I have to admit - Autumn is coming in fast. And while my African heart still longs to feel the sun on my face, I have to be honest, Autumn fashion is always my absolute fave. The colours, the fabrics, the textures. And this year the colours are delicious and there is velvet everywhere. This makes for a very happy Hayley.

Red Pumps - Evans (previous season)
Red Mock Croc Clutch - Thrifted

The yellows and sky blues of summer have turned to mustards, ochres and navys for Autumn and Winter. This pleated crushed velvet skirt caught my eye when I was walking past a M&S recently, and I just couldn't get it out of my head. It's so simple, and yet combines some great AW trends - velvet, pleats, midi skirts and rich colours. It also comes in Red, Mustard and Black (can I have one in every colour? I am thinking I need to have the Red next). I opted for the navy in the end, and decided to pair it with this statement ruffle shouldered shell top in Mustard. I love the colour combo between the navy and mustard, plus there is absolutely no shade of yellow I won't try.

The skirts only go up to a size 22, but considering I am currently a pretty solid size 24 and this fits well I am going to say the sizing is pretty generous thanks to stretch fabric and an elastic waist. The top has no stretch so I ordered it in a 24 which is especially necessary as I have chunky arms. It fits pretty well - although it's not particularly long, so I would only wear it tucked into something. I am really enjoying my recent forrays into M&S, and finding I have somewhere else to shop on the high street. I would love it if they could see their way to producing more of their pieces in more plus sizes, because I really think it would be very well received by the plus community.

I am loving this throroughly autumnal look - and it works perfectly for my new reincarnation as (lovely and not mean) boss bitch at work. What do you think? What are loving about fall fashion? Or are you still mourning the loss of summer? Let me know...
