Glitter Eyes: A Makeup Tutorial with Boots and Nyx Professional Makeup

As a little break from my usual plus size fashion fare, this week I am going all beauty blogger, and have my very first makeup tutorial, featuring Boots and Nyx Glitter, and a wearable glitter eye look.

I was really excited  when I was approached to do a makeup tutorial for Boots featuring Nyx. My entire adult life I've loved playing with makeup. When I was 18 I spent a year working in Selfridges on different makeup counters, learning about the joys of high end makeup. But in recent years high street makeup brands have really come into their own, and now rival what you can find in your favourite department store. My makeup collection is now a mixture of luxury products and drug store cheapies, and I love it! Nyx came onto my radar a couple of years ago. I adore their lipsticks and lip creams, and when my favourite liquid eyeliner was discontinued 18 months ago, a 6 month search led me to Nyx Epic Ink Black Liquid Eyeliner as my go to.

Boots asked me to create a glitter eyeshadow look, which is right up my alley because I LOVE a bit of glitter. However, glitter is usually kinda outlandish and crazy and I wanted to do a more romantic day to day look. This is something you could wear during the day time on the weekend, or out on a date without feeling too OTT (not that I am adverse to some OTT, I mean I was not born to be subtle). This is my first tutorial, and I know how complicated they can get, so I also wanted something that you can do even if you don't wear makeup very often. This is very much a beginners look lovelies. So without further ado, here is my tutorial... (be gentle, it's my first time ;)

Nyx products used in this tutorial -

(My usual prep for any eye makeup, even eyeliner, is using an eye primer of some sort. Nyx make one called Eye Shadow Base HD, which I haven't tried.)

Step 1

Using a soft eyeshadow brush I covered my entire lid in the metallic pinky gold from the Ultimate Eyeshadow palette. I blended it up towards my brow, and then blended in some matte cream shadow, from the same palette. It's a combination of soft subtle colours which means you don't have to have advanced blending skills, and it just gives you a nice soft base for the rest of the look.

Step 2

Using a small flat brush I applied the Glitter Primer to my lid, taking care not to go higher than the crease. I then used a fresh flat brush to pat the glitter onto the primer. I did this one eye at a time, because I didn't want the primer drying, or my eyelid getting sticky! I patted on a combination of the rose and gold glitters from Nyx. I kept the glitter below the crease because I wanted this look to be subtle, so the glitter only really shows in flashes when you blink. Again, this is also super easy to do.

Step 3

Step 3 is pretty much just defining the eye. If you know me, you know I usually am wearing a pretty hefty slick of black liquid eyeliner. But for this look I decided to forgo the liquid eyeliner. Instead I used a small eyeshadow brush to run a little of the slate grey shadow along my lower lash line, to give me eye that bit of definition. I finished off my eyes with two coats of the Worth the Hype mascara. I am incredibly fussy about mascara. I want it to be noticable without being clumpy. If I want a really over the top look I would rather add false lashes. But this mascara - worth the hype is right! It's great, and really finished my eyes of perfectly. It's definitely going to be one of my go to mascaras from here on.

Step 4

I finished my face off with my usual foundation, blusher and highlighter, and the Nyx Metallics Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes. The non metallic version of Cannes is my go to neutral-ish shade, so I was excited to try the metallic and I am pleased to report it is just as soft and long wearing as the original.

So! That's it! A very simple tutorial for a pretty and wearable look that's a combination of romantic and a little glam. I hope you liked it, and it gave you a bit of a nudge to try something different, or try out some of the great Nyx products. And let me know what you think, and if you'd be interested in more like this in the future!

  1. I love what you’be done here. Subtle glitter is definitely a cool take. I have that nyx glitter set, but so far i’ve only used it on my lips. The ruby glitter looks amazing on top of bright red lippie.

  2. Love this look Hayley xoxo I'm a huge NYX fan with a big collection of Soft Matte Lip Creams already and my go to liquid eyeliner is their Matte Liquid Liner. My make up bag also has a couple of their vivid brights as well but I will definitely be looking to add some glitter and that palette. Great easy to follow tutorial with a really subtle finished job. Love it.

Holders that have uncommon spaces or compartments that are consummately estimated for lipstick cylinders and nail clean jugs make it a breeze to store these things independently from the remainder of your accumulation.
